Why were some names in my batch marked cached, and how do I re-check them?
When you submit a list on /batch, we check every name against our database before anything is charged. A name that already has an appraisal on file, whether yours or another user's, is reported as cached. A name we have never appraised is reported as new.
What each label costs
| Label | Cost | What Happens |
|---|---|---|
| New | 2 credits each | Appraised now and added to your results |
| Cached | Not charged | Not run again; nothing is delivered for the name |
| Cached, with "Include cached appraisals in my results" ticked | 1 credit each | The existing appraisal is delivered with your results |
Including cached names is a retrieval, not a re-check. You receive the appraisal already on file, as it stands, at the cached rate. The name is not appraised again.
How to re-check a cached name
A genuine re-check, meaning a fresh appraisal of a name already on file, is done from the Batch Refresh page. It is available to active subscribers at 1 credit per name.
- Eligible right away: any appraisal made on an earlier engine than our current one
- Eligible after a cooldown: appraisals already on the current engine become eligible again after 30 days on standard plans, or 7 days on Enterprise
- What a refresh does: it replaces the prior value and keeps the old one in your history, so you can compare the two side by side on /e2compare
Select from a list you already have
You do not need to work out by hand which names were cached. On the Batch Refresh page, open Select from a list you already have, paste the same list you submitted to /batch (one name per line, or separated by commas or spaces; full URLs are fine) and click Select matching.
- Only the eligible names in your list are ticked
- The rest of the table is hidden, so you see just your names
- A summary tells you how many were still in cooldown or are not among your appraisals
Click Show all again to restore the full table.
The bottom line: nobody pays full price to re-check a name. The full rate of 2 credits applies only to names that are new to us. A name already on file costs 1 credit to retrieve with your batch, or 1 credit to refresh.
